Instant Pot IP-LUX60: Product Overview and Key Features

Instant Pot IP-LUX60 6-in-1 Programmable Pressure Cooker is jam-packed with many different features that allow you the freedom to cook most things inside this. When you talk about electric pressure cookers, many people say that they are not that good because they take time to come up to heat and build a pressure, while that may be true, what must be realized is that with electric pressure cookers, you can leave whatever you want to be cooked unchecked, and it will be able to cook it correctly. You do not have to stay over there watching over it. While that may not be true for high quality pressure cookers, it is definitely true for this.

Key features

The key features of the Instant Pot IP-LUX60 is firstly the most advertised 6-in-1 multifunction cooker, which means it can act as a pressure cooker, slow cooker, rice cooker, steamer, sauté and warmer. It is completely automatic, though it does have a manual setting option. Moreover included with the entire package is a steam rack, a rice paddle, a soup spoon and a measuring cup.

Instant Pot IP-LUX60You can even cook using the micro-processor controlled programs which include Sauté, Meat/Stew, Soup, Bean/Chili, Poultry, Porridge, Multigrain, Steam, Slow Cook and Rice. Adding to the plethora of features that it gives users is the ability to delay your cooking time up to 24 hours. So you can put in all the ingredients, set the timer, go to sleep, then by the time you wake you, you would have your rice ready to be eaten. If not, you can cook something, and then use the Keep Warm option to keep the food warm as long as required for up to 12 hours.

With so much automation, there comes another problem, which is that of safety. As pressure cookers, as the name suggests, build up a lot of pressure, there is a large possibility that there is too much pressure being built up inside, or that there is the smallest of leaks which would result in all of that pressure being released and an explosion happening. To prevent this, the IP-LUX60 comes loaded with 10 safety features. This includes a safety lid lock, automatic temperature and pressure control, anti-blockage vent, excess pressure protection, high temperature warning and many more so that you do not wake up to an explosion inside your kitchen. Unless of course you happen to be building a bomb inside your kitchen 🙂

Cons

While it is indeed advertised mainly as a slow cooker, that is one of the biggest criticisms of it. The problem with the IP-LUX60 is that it cooks on a lower pressure as compared to competitors, which is only from 10-11PSI only. For that, it would force you to adjust the timings and temperatures of your recipe in order to get the complete functionality from this. Moreover, because of its slower operation, if you ever in a hurry, your stove-top pressure cooker will do a much better job than this.

While this has a lot of features, more than can be counted on your hands, and that could be a good things, but for some it might be a little too much. Yes the front panel has large buttons, a large display, and a manual button for you to set everything yourself, trying to make it simple. But for those accustomed to a stove-top pressure cooker, it might be slightly harder to use. Apart from the features, the safety lid that it has can be slightly complicated to secure for a first time user, and the problem with that is that if it is not properly secured, then the cooker will not reach pressure and would instead change to its “Keep Warm” mode. If anything, some people might look at the safety precautions as something that hold back the cooking of food under normal conditions.

Verdict

The Instant Pot IP-LUX60 is definitely one of the best electric pressure cookers in the market. While it may not be as fast as a traditional stove-top pressure cooker, it is not meant to be. It is meant to be for people who require ease of use, who would leave food on the pressure cooker and then run other errands around the house, to come to a well prepared meal. It is easy to use, it is easy on the wallet, and it cooks more things than you would ever need. As a cherry on top, with the removable stainless steel container it is also easy to clean. If you wish to have all of these features and cook with ease, then this is probably the pressure cooker for you.
